That afternoon, we decided to visit the Eastern State Penitentiary – the advertising says it was, “once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers.”

I was skeptical about “the ruin” part was very surprised at how well they are keeping the feeling of decay.

The self guided audio tour is very well done, with added audio stops at different areas.

There are several exhibits in the museum, including multimedia films and a look at incarceration rates in the US versus the world.

Cindy Stockton Moore’s “Other Absences” reminds us their are victims, these images are some of the murder victims by former inmates at Eastern.

This was a great surprise and wonderful museum, worth the time when in Philly!
