So much better.

After leaving Clay’s, I headed to Uwharrie to meet friends from the Olde North State Land Cruiser club for the annual Christmas party.

The event was also my chance to camp in December, fulfilling my 2015 New Year’s Resolution to camp at least once each month this year. Over 40 nights camping this year and at least one night each month.

The party is held on private land and features a barn for sleeping, cooking and eating.

102415pod 102415podBI had several change of plans this weekend, but it meant I had time to do the Fall clean and wax job on the Tacoma. I spent the time thinking about why I enjoy cleaning and waxing, my first job was washing, cleaning and waxing airplanes in high school, then in college I re-conditioned used cars for a dealership for 3 years. All that time cleaning someone else mess made me want to keep my stuff clean. Not bad for 235,000 miles!

080715podC 080715podB 080715podAI needed pictures for another forum, mods to the Flippac. After a week of camping and crawling in and out of the back of the truck, my knees started to hurt. So I pulled off the plastic bed liner, bolted a piece of 1/4 inch plywood, and glued this mat… much better. I then added this latch so I do not have to screw in the wingnut every time I want to open the back of the truck.

Photo A Day Project 2015 (photo by Jay Capers)For those who know Johnny, this rare, it is not him under his Land Cruiser fixing something. Brian let Heather drive the Land Cruiser, when she crossed a rut on the trail (or drove into the ravine) the front differential exploded? After removing the front drive shaft, we said good bye to the group. I really hope they made it the 4 plus hours home!

062815pod_377We moved to a new campsite in the Pisgah National Forest. I tried a little light painting with a flashlight.

Thwarted. After collecting parts for a while, I was ready to do the Tundra brake upgrade on my Tacoma. It all bolted together but the rims from my 1998 4Runner rubbed the caliper. Just about any other Toyota rim works with this upgrade… now I need to find different rims. I returned all the parts, so this will be a Fall job.

Boring POD and day, Built the spacer (light gray) to go between the platform and the Flippac ot keep the dog from searching for my stuff to chew on long drives. (She is fine on short drives) Rotated tires and oil change on the Taco. Then the rain came.
